28 December 2017

After the busy excitement of Christmas Day, the weeks of preparation, the biggest lunch of the year to cook and the budget-busting December bank statement looming, you can be forgiven for wanting to kick off your slippers and sit back for the rest of 2017! There’s little wonder then that more and more of us are swapping the traditional New Year's Eve frenzy of overpriced bars and expensive taxi trips, for an altogether more relaxed and cosy evening at home with friends and family. Here's our guide to having a fantastic, family-centric end of year celebration in the comfort of your own home!

Create some fantastic New Year cocktails and bakes

While the adults sip Prosecco and cocktails, make some ""mocktail"" versions for the little ones. Try creating Rainbow Sprites (lemonade and ice cubes coloured with food colouring), Cookie Milks (warm milk in champagne flutes with biscuit and marshmallow sprinkles) and mulled ""cider"" (warmed apple juice with cinnamon or mixed spice). Get the kids involved with creating the night's nibbles by baking cupcakes in different flavours that they can decorate. Our Prestige bakeware range includes 12 and 6 cup muffin tins for you to create the perfect bakes!,

Make the countdown really count!

With little ones you can really go to town on numbered balloons, cupcakes or balls. Why not start an early countdown to keep the kids entertained? From 7:30pm, release a balloon every half hour for some added excitement. You can attach notes to each balloon with a different fun-filled activity for the kids to do – charades and musical statues work a treat.,

Snuggle up with a movie and some popcorn!

Snuggling in front of the fire with a great film has to be one of our all-time favourite family activities! You'll need a great snack to nibble while you watch, and popcorn has to be a favourite for all ages. Our Prestige Popcorn maker creates mouth-watering fresh popcorn in under three minutes and features an integrated scoop for easy use. Why not try our simple Sweet Popcorn, made with butter and sugar or for something a bit different, try our flavoursome Spicy Chilli Popcorn, with fiery hints of paprika, chilli and cumin. ,

Dress up!

As midnight approaches, why not dress up for the occasion? The kids can model their favourite outfits and you could provide some fun accessories; think wigs, hats, feather boas and fake moustaches! Have your selfie-sticks at the ready and be sure to get lots of photos to mark the start of the brand new year. These are just some of our suggestions to help make staying in the new going out this New Year. Join us on Twitter and Facebook where we would love to hear your suggestions and New Year’s traditions.
